Edward Waites
Description
Edward Waites is a British wildlife sculptor whose bronzes celebrate the strength, character and individuality of the animal kingdom. Born in Suffolk and entirely self-taught, Waites developed his distinctive sculptural approach from an early age, combining close observation with a deep appreciation for traditional craftsmanship.
White Park Bull 1/3 Life-Size pays tribute to one of Britain's oldest and rarest native cattle breeds. Historically associated with medieval deer parks, aristocratic estates and the ancient agricultural traditions of the British countryside, White Park cattle have a heritage stretching back centuries. Waites' choice of subject connects his contemporary practice with this remarkable history of British rural life. Working closely with a Suffolk foundry, Waites employs the centuries-old lost-wax casting process, first modelling his subjects in clay before translating them into bronze. His direct, expressive approach preserves the immediacy of the sculptor's hand, lending each work a distinctive sense of character and vitality. Waites' sculptures are held in prestigious collections internationally, with notable commissions for Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and the ruling family of Dubai.
