Description
Edward Waites’ Hare Trio celebrates one of the most recognisable creatures of the British countryside, capturing the remarkable agility and energy of the hare in full flight. Long associated with British folklore, the hare has fascinated artists for centuries, symbolising the arrival of spring, fertility and the untamed spirit of the natural world. In Hare Trio, three hares are captured at successive moments of a leap, creating a wonderful sense of continuous movement. Working closely with a Suffolk foundry, Waites employs the traditional lost-wax casting process, preserving the expressive marks of his original clay models in bronze.
Born in Suffolk in 1988 and raised in Newmarket, the historic centre of British horse racing, Waites developed an early fascination with animal anatomy and movement. Entirely self-taught, he has established himself as one of Britain's leading contemporary wildlife sculptors, with a particular talent for conveying the character and vitality of his subjects. His sculptures are held in distinguished collections internationally, including several royal collections, reflecting his growing reputation within contemporary British wildlife sculpture.
