Gallery in the Garden

For year, Gallery in the Garden has been hosted in the glorious gardens of Molecey Mill as an annual celebration where art and nature exist in harmonious dialogue.

Gallery in the Garden returns to Molecey Mill as a considered integration of sculpture and landscape, set within the grounds of this historic Lincolnshire water mill. The exhibition centres on a series of large-scale driftwood works by James Doran-Webb, installed across lawns, waterways and established planting. Constructed from reclaimed timber, each sculpture is assembled from individually selected fragments, their weathered surfaces and varied tones retained within the final form. Positioned in open air, the works shift in appearance throughout the day, responding to changes in light, season and viewpoint.

  • Doran-Webb’s practice draws upon materials sourced from coastal and river environments, which are then arranged to construct animal forms defined by movement and structure. The articulation of each figure remains visible through the placement of its component parts, allowing the process of construction to remain legible within the finished work.

At Molecey Mill, these sculptures are encountered within a working landscape, where water, vegetation and architecture form an active context. The exhibition extends beyond the gallery setting, inviting a direct engagement between artwork and environment, while a complementary selection of paintings provides a further point of reference for the observation of the natural world.
