Reflections is a visual journey that celebrates the multifaceted concept of reflection, both literal and metaphorical, through the eyes of our visionary artists who have harnessed their creative prowess to capture moments of beauty.
Reflections marks a moment to consider the past year at Gladwell & Patterson, as the change of season brings a natural pause within an active programme of exhibitions and travel. Continuing a long-established commitment to presenting works of distinction, the gallery has extended its reach across a series of exhibitions in Newport, The Hamptons and Petworth, alongside its ongoing activity in the United Kingdom. These projects have provided an opportunity to introduce both historic and contemporary artists to new audiences, while strengthening relationships with collectors and institutions.
The exhibition takes the idea of reflection as its point of departure, exploring both its physical presence within the landscape and its wider implications as a process of observation and reconsideration. Surfaces of water, shifting light and mirrored forms appear across the works on view, offering varied treatments of reflection as a visual phenomenon. At the same time, the exhibition acknowledges reflection as a means through which artists revisit subject, memory and experience, shaping their approach to composition and material.
Across the paintings and sculptures presented, this duality is evident in differing approaches to surface, tone and structure. Some works remain closely tied to observed conditions, while others extend into more interpretative responses, where reflection becomes a device through which space and perception are reconsidered.
Reflections brings together these perspectives within a single context, offering a survey of how artists continue to engage with a concept that operates both within the visible world and beyond it.
