Description
Barbara Rae Norridge's Autumn Paints the Hedgerow celebrates the rich diversity of British birdlife and the quiet beauty of the countryside as the seasons change. Bringing together a lively gathering of familiar garden birds, the painting reflects Norridge's lifelong fascination with the natural world and her particular concern for the protection of Britain's declining songbird populations. Having spent much of her early life in Africa, Norridge studied at the Johannesburg College of Art Foundation, drawing inspiration from the continent's extraordinary wildlife and expansive game reserves. Since settling in Leicestershire in 1992, her artistic interests have increasingly embraced the birds and natural habitats of the British countryside, alongside her enduring love of game birds and waders. Norridge's paintings frequently explore the relationships between birds and their surroundings, often presenting them in animated gatherings that suggest a sense of community and companionship. In Autumn Paints the Hedgerow, the autumnal hedgerow becomes a thriving sanctuary for an assortment of songbirds, reflecting the artist's commitment to celebrating the beauty and importance of the natural world while encouraging a greater appreciation of its preservation.
