Lucy Kent
Description
Lucy Kent's Golden Light, Still Waters explores the ever-changing atmosphere of the coastline, a subject particularly suited to her instinctive approach to landscape painting. Although based in Wiltshire, Kent travels widely in search of contrasting landscapes and distinctive qualities of light, drawing inspiration from locations across Britain and further afield. Initially trained in classical portraiture at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and London Fine Arts Studios, Kent developed a strong foundation in traditional drawing and observation. Her return to the British countryside inspired a growing fascination with landscape painting, offering greater freedom to respond to the natural world. Working both en plein air and in the studio, she combines expressive brushwork with palette knife techniques, often developing her outdoor studies into larger compositions.
In Golden Light, Still Waters, Kent turns her attention to the meeting of land and sea, where changing light transforms the coastal landscape. Her approach follows the longstanding tradition of painting directly from nature, capturing not simply the appearance of a place but the fleeting atmosphere and experience of being there.
