Lucy Kent
Description
Bright Light Across the Fields, Summer reflects Lucy Kent's close relationship with the British countryside and her fascination with the ever-changing qualities of natural light. Based in North Wiltshire, Kent initially trained in classical portraiture at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and London Fine Arts Studios. Her return to the countryside, where she grew up, inspired a shift towards landscape painting, drawing upon the expansive skies, open fields and changing seasons that surround her.
Working both en plein air and in the studio, Kent embraces the spontaneity of painting directly from nature, often developing her outdoor studies into larger compositions. Her combination of palette knife and expressive brushwork allows her to respond instinctively to fleeting atmospheric conditions, capturing the particular character of a place at a moment in time. Although her travels have taken her to Italy, Sri Lanka and Kenya, the British landscape remains central to her practice. In Bright Light Across the Fields, Summer, Kent celebrates the vitality of the summer countryside, reflecting her enduring interest in the relationship between land, light and season.
