Lucy Kent
Description
Lucy Kent's Dusk I explores the fleeting transition between daylight and evening, a moment that has long fascinated artists for its changing atmosphere and sense of tranquillity. The painting reflects Kent's increasingly abstract approach to the landscape, where the experience of light and colour takes precedence over the precise representation of a particular place. Originally trained in classical portraiture at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and London Fine Arts Studios, Kent developed a strong foundation in traditional observation. Her subsequent move towards landscape painting offered greater freedom for experimentation, inspired by the expansive skies and changing seasons of the British countryside surrounding her Wiltshire home. Working both en plein air and in the studio, Kent frequently develops studies made directly from nature into expressive compositions, allowing memory and instinct to guide her interpretation. In Dusk I, the familiar landscape becomes an exploration of atmosphere and the passing of time. The painting reflects her continuing development towards abstraction, while remaining deeply connected to the natural world that inspires her practice.
