Lucy Kent
Description
Lucy Kent's A Quiet Morning on Putsborough takes inspiration from the beautiful North Devon coastline, where Putsborough Sands lies at the southern end of Woolacombe Bay, sheltered beneath the dramatic headland of Baggy Point. Known for its sweeping shoreline and quieter atmosphere, this stretch of coast provides a fitting subject for Kent's exploration of changing light and the distinctive character of the British landscape. Originally trained in classical portraiture at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and London Fine Arts Studios, Kent later found greater artistic freedom in painting directly from nature. Based in Wiltshire, she travels widely across Britain and beyond, seeking landscapes that offer opportunities to capture fleeting atmospheric conditions. Working both en plein air and in the studio, Kent combines expressive brushwork with palette knife techniques, allowing her initial observations to develop into increasingly instinctive interpretations. In A Quiet Morning on Putsborough, she captures the peaceful atmosphere of the Devon coast, drawing upon her experience of the landscape to convey the tranquillity of a quiet morning beside the sea.
