“It’s probably no coincidence that I was listening to Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin series when I was working on this big culinary painting. O’Brian’s stories are loaded with the grand dining style of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. It’s a combination of that and what I imagine a chef might get up to if he were at a French country place for a month. Big feasts.”
