Signed Dolman (lower right)
The brushwork in Carmen is remarkably refined, contributing to the hyper-realistic rendering of the jaguar’s fur and facial features. Contemporary artist, Sam Dolman layers fine, short brushstrokes to mimic the softness and natural flow of the animal’s coat. The background, in contrast, is softly blended, subtly fading behind the sharply detailed foreground. This contrast enhances the depth of the composition, drawing the viewer’s attention directly to the jaguar’s intense gaze. The interplay of meticulous detailing and soft gradients exemplifies Dolman’s technical mastery in painting wildlife portraiture.
Despite working as an accountant for many years, Dolman has recently returned to his childhood passion for painting.
From the Cows of the Peak District, to Big Cats, Dolman finds inspiration from the natural world around him, in Britain and on his travels.
Dolman has built a reputation for being a highly detailed realist artist, including as a runner up in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.
He has also been awarded with honors at the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Exhibition.
