Finistère, Tempête by Renée Carpentier Wintz captures the raw energy of the Breton coastline with dynamic brushwork and a palette alive with seafoam and spray. The painting evokes the power and drama of the Atlantic in full swell, where rocks and waves collide under a windswept sky. A striking example of French marine painting, this work is perfect for collectors drawn to coastal landscapes infused with movement, atmosphere, and the spirit of the untamed sea.
Renée Carpentier-Wintz was born in Paris in 1913 and specialised in painting impressionist style landscapes and harbour scenes of Brittany.
Carpentier-Wintz, was a pupil of Lucien Simon at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. She became a member of French Artists in 1934, exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and the Salon de la Marine; in particular, she won the Corot Prize in 1952.
Renée was the wife of Raymond Wintz, who was known as a ‘painter of light’ and enjoyed a reputation as one of the finest artists working in France at this time. He gained a firm appreciation by critics and collectors as a leading painter of landscapes, sea and harbour scenes.
Her paintings are today to be found in private and public collections throughout France and Europe.
