JOHN FREDERICK HERRING JR. | Ready for the Ride
Oil on Board
20 cms / 8" tondo
An original oil painting with a horse in saddle standing in a farmyard and thatched shelter, by the fantastic artist John F. Herring Jr. He devoted his career to imitating his father’s work, particularly farmyard scenes. Interestingly, since both artists used the same name and initials on their paintings, their work is often confused.
Herring Jnr. followed in his father’s foot-steps, a well known 19th Century painter John F. Herring, Sr. Early in Herring Jr,'s artistic career he learned his father’s mastery of the brush and was exposed to many fine paintings and wealthy patrons and became a painter of sporting and animal scenes.
He devoted his career to imitating his father’s work, particularly farmyard scenes. Interestingly, since both artists used the same name and initials on their paintings, their work is often confused.
Through his career, Herring, Jnr. continued to paint in his father’s style but evolved as an artist and his style gradually began to change with loosening his brushworks and widening views.
