After three long years of waiting, we were beyond excited that Masterpiece would finally take place at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. With Masterpiece being online in 2020, and it not taking place at all last year, the anticipation was felt by all members of the G&P Team.
The preparations for our stand started on Friday 24th June. As is tradition, the wonderful company Fromental provided us with their beautiful show-stopping wall covering. This year, our wall covering was composed of panels of velvet with hand-stitched British wildflowers and four different species of endangered British butterflies.
The preparations continued on Sunday, our fantastic furniture was placed on the stand, and all our beautiful paintings were hung and ready for vetting day on Monday.
Vetting day is when the experts at Masterpiece evaluate the authenticity of all the items that are for sale, to ensure that visitors feel that they are buying items of the upmost quality. There are 27 individual vetting committees, whose membership is taken from leading international specialists comprising scholars drawn from all areas of the art world including museum curators, conservators, auctioneers, dealers, and gallerists. Vetting also ensures that each stand has satisfied the expectations of the fair’s curators.
‘Vetting is the expert appraisal of works of art and has been undertaken at Masterpiece since its first edition in 2010.’ – Masterpiece Art Fair
The fair started with a wonderful preview day on Wednesday 29th June, with Glenn, Graham, Cory, Marie-Claire and Emily on our beautiful stand. From the first day of Masterpiece, we were incredibly lucky to meet some delightful new clients, as well as spending time with our fantastic clients who love Masterpiece just as much as we do.
Thursday was the first day that Masterpiece was open to the public, in the evening we welcomed some of the newest members of our team to their first ever masterpiece. Will, Maddie and Sophia could not believe that the huge marquee containing hundreds of flowers and other plants at Chelsea Flower Show had been replaced by an even larger, carpeted marquee that was now home to beautiful paintings, sculptures, and furniture, as well as a speedboat and two Ferraris.
Throughout the week, we have met some amazing new clients, and we have thoroughly enjoyed spending quality time with our existing clients. A huge thanks and congratulations to everyone who made the week such a success, we are so lucky to have an incredible team. We hope to have many more successful years at Masterpiece!
