Art in the Arcade

A New London Home for Gladwell & Patterson
März 12, 2026

Gladwell & Patterson is pleased to announce the opening of its new London gallery at House 50, Burlington Arcade, marking an important new chapter in the history of the gallery. The move brings one of Britain’s longest-established fine art galleries into one of the capital’s most historic and distinguished settings.

  • Opened in 1819, Burlington Arcade is widely regarded as one of London’s most elegant and recognisable destinations. Situated in the heart of Mayfair, the Arcade offers a refined and tranquil environment set apart from the surrounding bustle of the city. For over two centuries it has maintained a reputation for craftsmanship, individuality and attentive service, values that resonate closely with the long-standing traditions of Gladwell & Patterson.

As the gallery considered its next stage, the search focused on finding a location that could both honour its historic legacy and provide an inspiring setting for the presentation of fine art. House 50 in Burlington Arcade quickly emerged as the natural choice. The Arcade and Gladwell & Patterson share a deep connection to London’s cultural and commercial heritage, making the setting particularly fitting for the gallery’s next chapter.

  • The new space draws inspiration from several previous London galleries associated with the firm, including its well-known premises on Queen Victoria Street as well as later locations on Albemarle Street and Beauchamp Place. Elements of these earlier galleries have informed the design and atmosphere of the Burlington Arcade space, alongside the continuing presence of the gallery’s Stamford location, which remains an important part of the gallery’s programme.

Positioned halfway along the Arcade, the gallery offers an intimate environment in which visitors may view paintings and sculpture in a calm and welcoming setting. The surrounding architecture and the presence of Burlington Arcade’s historic Beadles contribute to a distinctive atmosphere, allowing visitors to step away from the pace of the city and encounter works of art in a setting that reflects the gallery’s long-standing commitment to quality and presentation.
