Willem Dolphyn Belgian, 1935-2016
Pear Delight
Oil on Panel
60 x 50 cms / 24 x 20 inches
Description
Drawing on Northern European still-life traditions, Dolphyn paints objects as they exist in daily life, allowing age, touch and imperfection to remain visible. The result is observational, where ordinary domestic things are granted presence through patience and exacting attention rather than theatrical display. In Pear Delight, linen spills over the table edge, creased and slightly heavy, while the objects appear close enough to have just been handled. Dolphyn pays close attention to wear: the glass is not flawless, the ceramic bears minute losses and the metal has been burnished by use. These details lend the scene a sense of continuity, as though the arrangement belongs to a working interior.
