Silver Grapes pairs a pale stoneware jug with a shallow metal bowl filled with green dessert plums, arranged against a muted blue-grey ground. The restrained palette allows subtle shifts of tone and surface to come to the fore: the softly reflective bowl, the chalky glaze of the jug, and the faint bloom that settles naturally on the skins of the fruit. Dessert plums are varieties cultivated to be eaten fresh rather than cooked, valued for their sweetness, juiciness and delicate texture. Unlike culinary plums, which hold their shape under heat, dessert plums are thinner-skinned and often coated with a natural waxy bloom that protects the fruit and gives it its characteristic matte sheen.
