Soft Light at Blakeney Quay depicts the tidal creeks and salt marshes of the North Norfolk coast at the close of day. A winding channel of water curves through the foreground mudflats, guiding the eye towards a distant line of moored boats and slender masts. Historically a small trading harbour and fishing community, Blakeney Quay now forms part of a protected landscape within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Peter Wileman has frequently returned to such tidal locations, where the changing light over water and expansive skies provides a setting well suited to his exploration of colour, atmosphere and the open coastal horizon.
