Description
A low, luminous band of pale gold stretches across the centre of the canvas, dividing a softly modulated sky from a darker, weightier foreground. The upper register shifts from grey-green to muted teal, blended in thin, even gradations. Below, broad planes of ochre, rust and subdued coral are built up with a palette knife, creating ridged surfaces and irregular edges that overlap and interlock. Areas of exposed ground and scraped-back paint introduce subtle tonal variation, while a central passage of light appears to recede into the distance.
This work forms part of the artist’s ongoing exploration of horizon-based abstraction. Using layered oil and controlled impasto, he investigates spatial depth through tonal transition and surface texture, reducing landscape to elemental relationships between light, atmosphere and terrain.
