Description
A pale expanse of sky occupies the upper half of the composition, shifting gradually from cool green to soft grey. Beneath it, a horizontal sweep of warm ochres and pale creams suggests a distant shoreline, interrupted by passages of turquoise and muted blue. The foreground is constructed from layered, knife-applied paint in earthy browns and deepened teal, with edges softened by thin glazes. Textured ridges catch the light across the surface, while a central band of brightness draws the eye laterally across the canvas.
In this painting, the artist continues his investigation of sea and horizon as abstract fields. Rather than describing specific coastal features, he concentrates on tonal balance and material presence, using oil built up in strata to articulate depth and atmosphere.
