Description
Peter Wileman frequently explores estuarine and coastal subjects where large areas of water and sky create an atmosphere of quiet openness. In Surface and Silence the composition is built through broad passages of cool blue pigment, interrupted by small accents of warmer colour along the horizon where light touches the distant land. Areas of exposed canvas and lightly worked surface remain visible within the foreground, allowing the blue tones to appear more luminous while emphasising the material presence of the paint itself.
