Description

In this miniature bronze, Edward Waites distils the force of the charging rhinoceros into a compact yet powerfully resolved form. Despite its reduced scale, the sculpture conveys formidable momentum, with the head lowered and the mass of the body driving forward through compressed musculature and taut limbs. Waites’ modelling is direct and purposeful, using vigorous surface textures to evoke the rhino’s thick hide and immense weight. A deep, earthy patina settles into the contours, enhancing depth while allowing highlights to catch along the horns and shoulders. As a miniature, this work offers an intimate insight into Waites’ sculptural language.
