Description
In Charging Rhino, Edward Waites captures the animal at the point of commitment, head lowered and mass driving forward with intent. The composition is compact and grounded, emphasising momentum through the powerful arc of the shoulders and the forward thrust of the horns. Waites’ surface handling is bold and expressive, with worked textures conveying the density of hide and the strain of movement. A dark, earthy patina reinforces the sculpture’s weight, allowing light to break across the ridges and musculature without softening its force. The low base anchors the form, intensifying the sense of forward pressure.
