Description
On the Prowl presents the lion as a figure of measured dominance and contained aggression. The animal advances with deliberate intent, its body held low and tense, every muscle engaged. Waites’ modelling prioritises structure, using strong planes and purposeful surface marks to articulate movement without excess detail. The lion’s mane is suggested through sculptural mass rather than description, reinforcing the solidity of the form. Subtle shifts in patina animate the surface, drawing attention to the shoulders, flanks and spine as the animal moves forward.
