Description
Moored Boats, Venice presents a narrow Venetian canal bordered by closely packed buildings, their pale plaster walls and red-tiled roofs reflected in the still water below. A small bridge spans the canal in the middle distance, while a gondola and several moored boats introduce a sense of scale and everyday use. Venetian subjects formed the core of Bouvard's practice in the early twentieth century, attracting sustained interest from French painters and reflecting his repeated study of lesser canals rather than major landmarks produced during his regular stays in the city.
