Description
It was at the age of 12 that through his grandfather’s tales, Willem Dolphyn began his interest in Eastern culture. Dolphyn visited countries including Turkey, Greece, Lebanon, Egypt and Libya and it wasn’t long before he was to travel to the Far East to see for himself where these tales came from. In Delft Treasures, Dolphyn uses the ornamental textile not simply as a support but as an active compositional element, anchoring the arrrangement and emphasising the material qualities of embroidery, glaze and glass.
