    As specialist dealers in 19th century, Post-Impressionist and Modern art, Gladwell & Patterson possess deep knowledge of precisely the periods and artists most likely to be found in private collections today. Our buyer network, built across generations of trading at the highest level, means that when we take on a work, it reaches the right audience. We work transparently and at all times with your interests at the centre of what we do. We will tell you honestly what a work is worth, which route to sale is most likely to achieve the best outcome, and, equally importantly, what we believe is not the right time or method to sell.

    Our process is designed to be simple and entirely transparent. From first contact to final sale, we keep you fully informed at every stage and ensure you have all the information needed to make the right decisions for your work. Get in touch via email at admin@gladwellpatterson.com Share what you know about the work (artist, subject, dimensions, any provenance) and attach photographs if you have them. A specialist will review your submission and respond with an initial assessment. For works of significant interest, we may request a physical viewing or arrange for the work to be brought to us at Stamford or London for closer examination. 

    We advise on the most appropriate route: private sale through the gallery, inclusion in a curated exhibition, or placement at auction with our support. We are always honest about which approach is most likely to achieve the best result for that particular work at that particular moment.

Our knowledge of these markets, current collector demand, recent auction results, pricing trends, and provenance, is extensive and regularly updated. This list reflects our primary areas of expertise but is not exhaustive; we handle works across a broad range of nineteenth century and early twentieth century painting and welcome all approaches.     French Post-Impressionism represents one of our strongest and most established areas of specialism. Works by artists connected to the movement, particularly those with strong exhibition histories, institutional recognition, or distinguished provenance, are always of keen interest, and we bring to them a depth of market knowledge that is rarely matched. That expertise has been carefully cultivated over three generations. Herbert Fuller, grandfather to the gallery's current directors, Glenn and Cory Fuller, was an active presence in the Parisian art world at its most formative, attending the Paris Salons and working directly with a number of the artists we now represent, among them Georges Charles Robin, acquiring works in close collaboration with their studios. The relationships he built, and the understanding of these artists' work that came with them, have been passed down with care through the Fuller family. It is on this foundation that the gallery today stands as the world's foremost specialists in the work of Georges Charles Robin.

    How Do I know what my painting is worth? 
     
    The value of any work depends on a range of factors: the artist, condition, provenance, size, subject matter and current market demand. We will give you a frank and well-informed assessment based on comparable recent sales and our live knowledge of where collector interest currently lies.
     
    should i sell through a gallery or at auction?
     
    Both routes have merits, and the right answer depends on the work and the circumstances. Selling through us as a specialist gallery typically offers greater control over pricing, a more targeted presentation to the right buyers and a more personal service. Auction can work well for certain works and at certain moments in the market. We will give you an honest assessment of which approach is most likely to serve your interests, and where appropriate, we can support you through an auction process as well.
     
    what is 'consignment' and how does it work?
     
    Consignment means entrusting your work to us to sell on your behalf. We agree a reserve price, the minimum below which the work will not be sold, and a commission structure. You retain ownership of the work until it is sold. Once sold, we settle promptly and provide a complete account of the transaction. We are transparent about our fees from the outset.
