Jonathan Pike was born in 1949 in Leatherhead, Surrey, in England. He studied at the Central School of Art and Design, followed by the Falmouth School of Art where he studied under Francis Hewlett and Robert Organ.

Jonathan is broadly acknowledged to be one of the finest architectural painters of his generation. A watercolourist first and foremost, he also paints in gouache and oils.

On graduating in 1971 Jonathan travelled extensively across Italy, Spain and France, coming to rest in London, where he developed the urban landscape as a notable theme in his work. He specializes in cityscapes of Rome, Florence, Havana, London, Dublin and elsewhere, but it is his exquisite Venetian scenes that have attracted a particularly avid following amongst collectors worldwide. Jonathan first visited Venice in 1975, and has returned on many occasions to produce his mesmeric studies of the atmosphere and light of this unique city.

Jonathan’s work is widely collected in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, and is held by the City of London Corporation. He frequently exhibits in the United States as well as in England, and he has shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. In 2009 Jonathan won first prize in The Royal Watercolour Society/Sunday Times Watercolour competition.

Jonathan is a master at capturing meticulous architectural details imbibed with a wonderful sense of atmosphere.
