Ollie Tuck
Description
Ollie Tuck’s Huntington Mackerel continues the artist’s fascination with the quiet beauty of everyday subjects, particularly those drawn from the kitchen, the fishmonger and the rituals of preparing and sharing food. Based in Sussex, Tuck developed her distinctive still-life practice through an engagement with domestic life, finding inspiration in ordinary objects whose forms, colours and associations lend themselves to painterly reinvention. Within her smaller works, Tuck often returns to familiar motifs, using repetition not as routine but as an opportunity to refine and reimagine. As she has noted, these miniature paintings allow her to experiment while pursuing a satisfying balance of palette, brushwork and texture. Fish and seafood have become recurring subjects in this process, offering scope for both close observation and heightened decorative expression. In Huntington Mackerel, Tuck transforms a humble coastal subject into a small, jewel-like painting. The work reflects her ability to push colour and surface while remaining rooted in direct observation, celebrating the character of the everyday with freshness, wit and elegance.
