Description
Lucy Kent’s Skyline I reflects her fascination with the relationship between light, colour and the natural landscape. Moving towards abstraction, Kent explores the shifting atmosphere of the horizon, allowing the sensations of a particular moment to take precedence over detailed representation.
Based in Wiltshire, Kent initially trained in classical portraiture at Charles Cecil Studios in Florence and London Fine Arts Studios. Her subsequent transition to landscape painting offered a greater sense of freedom, encouraging her to experiment with colour and texture while responding instinctively to the changing conditions of the natural world. Working both en plein air and in the studio, Kent often begins with studies made directly from nature, later developing these into more expressive compositions. Her approach draws upon the longstanding British landscape tradition while embracing a contemporary interest in abstraction, where colour and atmosphere become subjects in their own right.
