Description
The Chelsea Table was painted at the Chelsea Flower Show, using produce gathered that morning from an organic farm shop stand. Radishes, beetroot and spring onions sit among blue-and-white crockery, fresh flowers and a small pink jug, while the red gingham tablecloth brings pattern to the edges of the composition. The cloth is a deliberate nod to Pierre Bonnard, whose tablescapes and instinctive use of pattern were an early influence. Here, that inspiration is absorbed into Ollie's own visual language: loose, generous brushwork, strong colour and a continuing fascination with seasonal food and the everyday objects that gather around it.
