Jonathan Walker
Description
Waxed Whiskers is a charismatic portrait of a hare whose elegance borders on the theatrical. Standing confidently with cane in hand and whiskers seemingly groomed to perfection, this sharply dressed character exudes all the swagger of a Regency dandy or aristocratic rake - self-assured, impeccably styled and faintly amused by the world around him.
Dressed in a tailored dark tailcoat, striped waistcoat, crisp cravat and fitted breeches, the hare appears every inch the refined gentleman. Yet Walker’s genius lies in the contrast between sophistication and instinct: despite the polished attire and upright posture, the creature’s oversized ears, alert stance and twitching whiskers never allow us to forget its fundamentally wild nature. The title, Waxed Whiskers, playfully nods to the rituals of vanity and grooming associated with fashionable society, transforming a simple physical detail into a subtle joke about pride.
