Hiver à la Borne looks along a snow-covered lane that runs up through a village between houses and gardens. A single figure treks towards the viewer along the track, the lane curving from a cluster of pale-roofed houses with chimneys behind him down into the foreground. Bare fruit trees and a taller tree stand either side of the lane, their branches carrying touches of snow, and low trellis fences run along both edges of the path. The snow is worked in whites broken with blue, lilac and pink, and the same cool tones carry up into a soft, high winter sky. Warmer notes of ochre and rose appear on the house walls and roofs, and small flecks of stronger colour are scattered through the trees and along the fences.
