Donald Hamilton Fraser British, 1929-2009
Description
Colour, for Donald Hamilton Fraser, was not just a visual choice but a structural one. Within Landscape Composition IV, Fraser uses bold, primary hues to divide the canvas into distinct zones, each radiating its own energy. The fiery centre dominates, pulsating with intensity, while the cooler tones at the bottom anchor the composition. This interplay between warm and cool colours, between vibrant expanses and darker recesses, creates a rhythmic balance that is both harmonious and dramatic. W.H. Patterson held a two-man exhibition in March 2000 Mayfair, in which every picture was sold within the first two days, and Fraser was a regular contributor to W.H. Patterson's prestigious Venice In Peril exhibitions in the years leading up to his death in 2009.
