• Overview

Influenced by the strong colourist tradition in Scottish and French Painting, Glennie favours a fresh modern approach, respecting traditional drawing and painting methods, whilst offering something new and completely individual.

Pam Glennie was born on the west coast of Scotland and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 1986. Encouraged by her artistic parents, she began her career in design, developing an early and enduring engagement with colour. The guidance of Scottish painters Jim Wylie and the late John Cunningham contributed to the gradual formation of her individual approach. In 2020, she relocated with her husband to the Isle of Lewis, settling in a small coastal village on the northern edge of the Outer Hebrides. The surrounding landscape - its expansive beaches, coastal machair and shifting cloud formations - now forms the central subject of her work.

Her paintings draw on the colourist traditions of both Scottish and French practice, while maintaining a contemporary sensibility. Working primarily in artists’ soft pastels, she adopts a fluid and responsive method, allowing colour relationships and compositional balance to emerge through process. Alongside her fine art practice, she continues to produce textile designs. Her work is held in private collections across the United Kingdom and internationally.
