Description
Where the Day Widens depicts a broad coastal expanse seen from an elevated shoreline, looking out across still water towards a distant strip of land. The composition is organised in horizontal bands: pale sky above, a thin line of buildings and harbour structures across the horizon, and wide areas of water and sand in the foreground. A darker mass of shoreline enters from the lower left, its textured surface dissolving into the surrounding colour, while soft blue clouds gather above the horizon line.
