Description

Life Size Ram’s Head by Edward Waites captures the ancient majesty and symbolic power of one of Britain’s most iconic rural animals. The sculpture presents the ram head-on, its magnificent curling horns sweeping outward in dramatic arcs that immediately command the space around it. Waites balances realism with stylisation beautifully here; the anatomy is carefully observed, yet the sculpture possesses a bold sculptural simplicity that gives it an almost heraldic quality. The bronze surface is exceptionally handled, with subtle tonal variation across the patination emphasising the contrast between the polished muscular planes of the face and the richly textured fleece beneath. The horns themselves are beautifully modelled, their pale sweeping forms framing the darker central head and creating a wonderful visual rhythm within the composition. Mounted on a clean architectural base, the work possesses a gallery-like elegance while retaining all the raw character of the animal itself.
